DVD Verdict 084 - The Friday Filibuster [09/28/07]
DVD Verdict 084 - The Friday Filibuster [09/28/07]

Minor audio issues and heavy breathing aside, the boys are back in fine form. It's gaming week: Dave is addicted to HALO 3, while Mac is tackling MARVEL ULTIMATE ALLIANCE. Yet somehow they find time to sample the new fall television season with thoughts on CHUCK, HEROES, and REAPER. In terms of DVD, Mac has just reviewed Nic Cage in NEXT, while Dave continues the gaming theme with his review of Jaime Pressly in D.O.A. On the release horizon for October 2 is FANTASTIC FOUR: RISE OF THE SILVER SURFER, Stephen King's 1408, and the direct-to-DVD SPECIES 4. Not to be overshadowed, this weeks Ambush Topics include: Characters with really long beards; Animals getting punched in the face; Movie characters youd want on your football team; and Mayhem on the moon. Enjoy!

The boys are back! This week, they're talking the season premiere of PRISON BREAK, the badass 3:10 TO YUMA, the premiere of Mac's debut documentary film, The Queens of Quads, and interesting cover art for DVDs streeting Sep 25. And before they clock out, this week's ambush topics include: Star Wars alien you would least like to be; Scenes involving rollerskates; Sports that would not make an awesome action movie; and Impossibly tough supernatural women. DVD Verdict 080 - JetSet Studios
DVD Verdict 080 - JetSet Studios

Gaining insight into an area of Hollywood few people know much about, Chief Justice Michael Stailey sits down with Russell Scott one the founding partners of California-based JetSet Studios. While you may not recognize the name of the company, you are almost certainly familiar with their work. JetSet takes the essence of a film in production and creates its original online presence in the form of official websites, viral games, and other media rich content, and their most recent projects wound up being two of the summer's biggest comedies KNOCKED UP and SUPERBAD. But the best part of this interview are Russell's stories about working with Wes Craven, taking on KING KONG, spending time in the BARNYARD, furthering George Romero's legacy with a site dedicated to DAWN OF THE DEAD, and much more. And if you'd like to relive fond memories of your childhood, check out their labor of love RetroLand. It's just another dose of quality Verdict infotainment. Enjoy!

Technical issues threatened to derail the show, but Kent and Michelle marshaled on to explore the genius of Ms. South Carolina, the power of Ms. Jennifer Lopez on VHS, the magic of OZZIE AND HARRIET on DVD, cosmetic surgery of the stars, the name of the fourth INDIANA JONES film, the death of author Robert Jordan, and we finally learn why Kent hates THE BEATLES. Enjoy!

DVD Verdict 076 - The Friday Filibuster [09/14/07]

Judges Dave Johnson and Mac McEntire bring you another spiritual springboard to a glorious weekend. Mac is hard at work on a review of the visually stunning SAMURAI JACK: SEASON FOUR. Dave is polishing off his review of THE UPRIGHT CITIZENS BRIGADE: SEASON TWO, and gives his highest recommendation to THE OFFICE: SEASON THREE. The boys tease out the new Fall television season. The best of next week's new releases include the Governator in COMMANDO, Criterion's ROBINSON CRUSOE ON MARS, Wolfgang Peterson's director's cut of TROY, the '80s cult classic THE LAST STARFIGHTER, and Bruce Timm's boiled down, loose interpretation of the "Death of Superman" in SUPERMAN: DOOMSDAY. And this week's highly anticipated Ambush Topics include: Musical instruments used as weapons; Memorable births; Disgusting feet; and Part Human/Part Animal. Enjoy!

DVD Verdict 075 - View From the Couch [09/12/07]

After a computer crash created the legend of Kent and Michelle's first lost episode (welcome to the wonderful world of podcasting), the result is what you're about to hear... Take 2. Recovering nicely, they touch on the events of September 11; Michelle's flick swap throws her into the world of ROBOCOP and the amazing acting prowess of Peter Weller's mouth; Flashback to the 1960s and explore Barbara Stanwyck, Lee Majors, and Linda Evans in THE BIG VALLEY, a unique TV family sans patriarch; Kent steels himself for next week's flick swap assignment -- SELENA -- ((insert dramatic music here)); and the studio Beagle returns. Enjoy!

DVD Verdict 074 - Director William Friedkin (part 2)

In the second half of our two-part interview with director William Friedkin, we learn more about the backstory and experience of filming CRUISING, THE FRENCH CONNECTION, and SORCERER; filmmaking before the days of CGI and insanely expensive music licensing; his fascination with unsolved crimes and passion for opera; how stories and art are given new life throughout the generations; the genius of Tracy Letts, Harvey Goldstein, Joe Carnahan, and Marcel Proust; and much much more. It's a rare glimpse into the mind and heart of a true artist. Enjoy!
